A truly healthy diet

 • doesn’t exclude foods
 • is made up of foods, not numbers
 • is varied and flexible
 • is not restrictive
 • allows you to trust your body
 • is not obsessive
 • doesn’t use food as a reward or punishment
 • doesn’t have to be “perfect”
 • allows you to live your life, but it is not your life
 • does not exclude any food group
 • consists of foods that make you feel energized and healthy

Tell them to look up. Tell them to remember the stars. The stars are always there, but we miss them in the dirt and clouds. We miss them in the storms. Tell them to remember hope. We have HOPE.” - Renee Yohe

For everyone that didn’t know, it’s National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. In honor of this week, I have some eating disorder facts (not very fun) that I would like to share.
1. The likelihood for bulimia in 10-39 year old women tripled between 1988 to 1993.
2. Among women ages 15-24, the mortality rate associated with anorexia nervosa is twelve times higher than all other causes of death combined.
3. People who have severe anorexia often grow a downy layer of hair, called lanugo, all over the body, including the face, in an effort to keep the body warm.
4. It is estimated that 8 million Americans have an eating disorder – seven million women and one million men.
5. One in ten anorexia cases ends in death from starvation, suicide or medical complications like heart attacks or kidney failure.

I personally find this to be one of the most important facts about eating disorders because it is the most overlooked. People always seem to forget about all the males out there suffering, especially when it comes to eating disorders.
Males can have diabetes.Males can have cancer.Males can suffer depression or anxiety. So why can’t people understand that males also can suffer an eating disorder?
Eating disorders, like all other diseases and mental health issues, do not descriminate. Not against age, not against sexual orientation, not against ethnicity, not against sex.
Don’t forget about the boys and men. Please share <3
